Where AI actually helps in paid media
A practical look at which parts of a paid media workflow benefit from AI tooling — and which still need a human call.
There’s a lot of noise about AI “running” paid media accounts end to end. In practice, the useful gains are narrower and less dramatic — but real.
Where it helps
Ad copy variation, first-pass audience research, and summarizing weekly performance data are all places where AI tooling saves genuine hours. It’s fast at generating options and spotting patterns across large sets of numbers that would otherwise take an analyst half a day to compile.
Where it doesn’t
Budget allocation decisions, creative strategy, and anything that requires understanding why a campaign underperformed still need a person who knows the account history and the business context. Automated bidding systems are good at optimizing toward a signal — they’re not good at deciding whether that signal is the right one to optimize toward in the first place.
The workflow that’s actually working
Use AI to compress the research and reporting layer, and spend the time it frees up on strategy: audience definition, offer testing, and creative direction. That’s the trade that’s paying off right now, not full automation of the account.
